3rd Annual Community Celebration of Scouting

LDS Recreational Facility on Butte House Road and Civic Center Blvd. in Yuba City, CA

ALL activities are FREE and open to the community

Who May Race: Anyone who wants to follow the race rules, and fills out a registration form.

What: Buttes Area Cup Pinewood Derby Race.  An opportunity for the community to come out and have fun while supporting Scouting in the Buttes Area.

Where: LDS Recreational Facilty, corner of Buttes House Road and Civic Center Blvd in Yuba City.  Take Hwy 20 through Yuba City, turn north on Civic Center Blve (between Stabler and Hwy 99), go until Butte House Road.

Buttes Area Cup Pinewood Derby Race: Starts at 3:00 pm August 24th, and runs until 1:00 pm August 25th.  The Buttes Area District Pinewood Derby Race starts at 1:00 pm August 25th.

Buttes Area Cup: Races running continuously from Friday, August 24th at 3:00 pm thru August 25th at 2:30 pm

Anyone is invited to bring an official BSA pinewood derby car and be a part of this world record event. You don’t have to be involved in scouts to submit a car, you don’t even have to bring a car, we have plenty for you to use! Companies, families, service groups, elected officials, public service agencies and of course boy scouts, and girl scouts are encouraged to participate. There will be several hours set aside for specific groups to compete against each other and the winning car from each hour will be in the finals near the end of the event. Don’t miss seeing the unique loop de loop pinewood derby track complete with a full loop AND a jump!!


Report to the Community Breakfast: 8:00 am August 25th. (By invitation only)Local business leaders are invited to a “camp” breakfast prepared by and served by scouts and see first hand what scouting is all about and have the opportunity to support scouting activities.

Fireless Campfire - August 24 at 7:00 pmBring a sack dinner and join in the fun as scout units entertain with skits and community sing-a-long songs

Scout-O-Rama: 9:00 am August 25th.  Open to the Public.  See Scouting Events in Action!
Interactive scouting demonstrations and activities. If you want to lean how to tie a square knot, pitch a tent, walk on a rope bridge or cook in a Dutch oven, this is the place to learn.


District Pinewood Derby Race: Starts at 1:00 pm August 25th.  Registration starting at 12:00 Noon August 25th.
The Buttes Area District official BSA Pinewood Derby District Race.  Open only to scouts who have placed, and been sent on to the District Pinewood Derby Race.  Others are welcome to watch.

District Awards Barbeque: Starts at 2:30 pm on August 25th.  Must Pre-purchase Tickets.  Contact Dan Garvin or the cooking staff at Cooking Area on the Day of Event.   Scout units are invited to nominate a deserving volunteer. They will be recognized for their generous donation of time to the scouting program at the district awards BBQ

Why: To Promote Scouting in the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa Counties Area, and TO HAVE FUN!!!!!

General Information About the Boy Scout Program:

The Buttes Area District includes Yuba, Sutter and Colusa Counties and is part of the Golden Empire Council covering Northern California from Sacramento to Redding. There are over 10,000 adult volunteers in the council and over 18,000 youth are involved in the program. The Mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them values of the scout oath and law. 

The Scout oath: “On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the scout law, to help other people at all times, to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.”

The (Twelve Points of the) Scout law: “A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.”

How: Just Show up.  If you want to bring a pinewood derby car, great, if not, we have a lot there for you.
