The Boy Scouts Buttes Area District did something last year that had never been attempted in the world. They set a world record for the longest running pinewood derby race. It’s their Buttes Area Cup and this year, not only will they hold the 23 ½ hour Pinewood Derby Race they will have a loop de loop track with a full loop and a jump!!

The Buttes Area Cup is sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America, Golden Empire Council, Buttes Area District. It is a 23 1/2 Hour (not quite 24 Hours) long race starting August 24, 2012 at 3:00 pm, and ending August 25, 2012 at 2:30 pm. The first twenty-one hours are open to the general public, and will be divided up into individual "races" each of which will be approximately one hour long. The "races" will be hosted by businesses, non-profits, etc. For more information on hosting a race - at no cost to your group - please contact Dan Garvin at (530) 822-9275. Each "race" will consist of multiple "heats". The winner of each "race" will compete in the "run-off" race which will end at 12:00 noon on August 25th. Starting at 12:00 noon, the Boy Scouts District Pinewood Derby Race for Cub Scouts ONLY will start. All cars must be registered.
The idea behind the race is to raise awareness of Scouting in the Tri-Counties (Yuba-Sutter-Colusa) area while having FUN. Groups are encouraged to compete against each other. This is an international event with cars encouraged to be mailed in from all over the world. Mail in cars will be raced by race officials, however, please note that we cannot guarantee that your car will be returned. Damage to cars including cars being lost or stolen may occur.
